Dr. Karen A. Lawson

Licensed Psychologist

As a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider in Texas, Dr. Karen Lawson conducts therapy and psychological evaluations, provides education and training on the topic of problematic sexual behavior, and provides court testimony where requested. 


Dr. Lawson has worked in the field of problematic sexual behavior for over 30 years, in inpatient and outpatient settings, and within the prison system. For several years she was the director of an outpatient treatment program for adults who have committed a sexual offense, and provided training to psychology interns in the field of chronic sexual behavior. 


In her current practice, Dr. Lawson works with individuals who engage in compulsive or problematic sexual behavior, including pornography use, on-line sexual behaviors, sexual affairs, improper photography, use of child sexual exploitation material, and other behaviors. In addition to conducting evaluations, Dr. Lawson holds individual therapy with adults, including couples, and geriatric clients.


Dr. Lawson earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona, a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Texas School of Public Health, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Florida State University.  She is a member in good standing of the American Psychological Association, the Houston Psychological Association, and the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse.

Dr. Ray Hays

Dr. J. Ray Hays

Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Hays is licensed in Texas as a psychologist and an attorney. His practice is limited to psychological assessment and consulting on legal psychological matters, primarily criminal and administrative issues in Texas.


Dr. Hays holds adjunct faculty status at the University of Houston (1968-present), conducted research, training, and patient care at the Texas Research Institute of Mental Sciences (1968 to 1985), the University of Texas Medical School at Houston/Harris County Psychiatric Center (1985 to 2003), and Baylor College of Medicine/Ben Taub General Hospital (2003 to 2012).


He has authored over 100 scientific papers, 14 book chapters, and has written or compiled a dozen books related to psychology and law. His primary research interests are in psychological assessment as it relates to legal matters, the development of norms for particular populations, and the relationships among psychological assessment tools.


Dr. Hays is a member of the Medical Reserve Corp, and is a Colonel in the Texas State Guard Honorary Reserve. He holds the Senior Military Emergency Management System Badge from the State Guard Association of the United States and is an amateur extra class radio operator (AJ5RH).


Dr. Hays received his Doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the University of Georgia (1970), and his Juris Doctor degree from the South Texas College of Law (1980).  He is a Diplomate in Clinical (1977) and Forensic (1979) Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology.
